The 6th round of the Summer 2008 took place last
Sunday 20th July.
Today we not only had a club round but also the 3rd
Round of the Ripmax Racer Series, as such we had an excellent turnout of 35
drivers across all classes. With 7 heats to be run in each round we were in for
a long and busy day.
I would like to thanks all of those that made it down on
Friday evening to do some maintenance and painting work on the kerbs and
barriers, this really did make a big difference to the track appearance come
race day, thanks to you all.
Some had been down the track on Saturday for a day of
practise, and this showed on Sunday with some very quick times.
A separate report for the Ripmax Racer Series will be on the
website soon and articles sent to the magazines.
As I have said racing was very fast but generally very fair,
during the day lap records for Saloons, Trucks and F1s were all broken.
Trucks John
Ferrigno 14.15
Saloons Wayde
Sandford 13.23
F1 Simon
Shipham 14.09
I wont go into
details of the racing, not that I don’t want to, but I was just so busy in Race
Control I never really go to see any other than the ones I was in, but I have
been told that there were many very good races in all classes throughout the
day. One notable point was the pace of the Standard trucks against the much more
expensive Super Trucks, that never really got going all day. Just goes to show
you can have a great days racing for a reduced budget. I believe this will also
be the case with the F1 class, and that at SMCC it wont matter if you have std
car or comp car the performance will be leveled out by the track.
The full heat
and qualifying times and Champ table have been updated.
Don’t forget
the Wheels event at Littlehampton, if you can make it to help the club it would
be much appreciated, Chris Boys is organizing this so please help him as much as
you can.
Next race is
Sept 7th at SMCC, we may try to run another Enduro (boating event),
the weekend after it’s the Finals of the Ripmax Racer Series at Brooklands, lots
of you have done enough rounds to qualify for the great end of season prizes
donated by Ripmax, so I hope you can all make this.
Any of you
going away in August have a great time.
Pete
